When we think about the impact of AI on people’s work, we primarily perceive it as support for many tedious and not necessarily pleasant activities. Even NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang himself perceived machine workers in this way, i.e. as assistants for whom humans would be de facto bosses.
This does not mean, however, that this is always the case and will always be the case. It is already possible to find examples of the use of technology for typically managerial purposes. Thanks to this, you can finally manage people’s work more effectively and supervise individual progress.
What if AI became the company’s CEO? One of the Polish companies that employed a robot aptly named Mika came up with this idea. Who is she? What are its tasks and possibilities? Should even CEOs be concerned?
Mika, the world’s first robot CEO
Mika is a robot created and developed by Hanson Robotics from Hong Kong. This company is mainly known for creating another machine, which they simply called Sofia. The heroine of our text is therefore a kind of “younger sister” to Sofia, but at the same time she turns out to be much more advanced and offers more possibilities. What exactly are we talking about?
Mika is the world’s first robot CEO who actually served as the manager and supervisor of the entire company. More specifically, we are talking about Dictador, a Polish company producing alcoholic beverages. The robot began its managerial career on September 1, 2022.
One of Mika’s tasks is to acquire customers and select people responsible for designing labels on rum bottles. Thanks to data analysis, the robot is able to adapt its actions to the company’s strategy, making as objective decisions as possible. This does not mean, however, that he has full autonomy in his movements. The final decisions in managerial matters belong to people and this should not come as a surprise.
Additionally, Mika manages the Arthouse Spirits DAO project, supporting unique NFTs related to rare rums. The robot communicates with the DAO community and even has a profile on LinkedIn, where until recently it shared its passion for art, technology and luxury.
From an employer’s perspective, Mika has many unquestionable advantages – she can work without interruption. She does not need holidays or rest, days off and weekends do not apply to her. This is why the robot is always ready for action, does not complain about its position and does not have “bad days”. We are talking about an “ideal employee” who could be everyone’s dream come true. Here it is worth remembering that we are also talking about a robot CEO.
Are AI-based CEOs the future?
Marek Szołdrowski – president of Dictador Europe – emphasizes that Mika can change the world as we know it forever. These words – at first they may seem too loud – may soon turn out to be true. What may be surprising is the courage with which the Polish company approached the topic.
Does this mean that the future is for us to work under the guidance of AI? This cannot be ruled out, but it is already certain that not everyone will like it. There is nothing strange about this approach, after all, people prefer to have someone over them who empathizes with them at least a little.
Of course, everything will come down to the costs of implementing and maintaining such robotic bosses. If these turn out to be attractive to companies, there is nothing to stop people from being eventually forced out even from managerial positions.
