Open AI, as a true leader in innovation and development in the field of AI, has long been dictating the discourse followed by the entire sector related to this technology. This has obvious advantages, and these include powerful financing from investors who spare no resources for the company’s further development, counting on large profits.
Well, the desire to extract profits from such a subsidized and ambitious project creates pressure and forces you to rethink the way the entire company is run. It is no different in the case of Altman and company, in fact, here we are talking about even greater pressure.
A certain consequence of this is the presentation of the latest ChapGPT model. What attracts attention is not only its capabilities, but mainly the price. This one – according to many people – will knock you off your feet.
New and better ChatGPT
Yesterday, OpenAI presented a completely new version of its flagship product. We are talking specifically about the ChatGPT Pro model, which is intended to provide the most advanced version of the chatbot in an unlimited variant. This is not the end, because this set includes an advanced voice mode.
All this is intended to ensure that users will be able to receive better answers even faster. In this case, the company is talking about a certain reliability that some customers may simply need. According to this, an improved version of the model has been tested for data sciene, law analysis, or programming, and here it worked very, very well.
So we can say that Altman and company have delivered something that can be treated as a tool for all kinds of tasks, which can change the work of many companies for good. However, there is one very big “but” and it is the price…
For the full capabilities offered by ChatGPT, you have to pay quite a lot. The company has priced this subscription plan at $200 per month. This is a horrendous price that will not be paid by someone who uses the OpenAI tool once in a while.
Here we are talking about more advanced tasks and professional tasks. Then such a purchase becomes a bit more justified, but it is still quite a large sum. There are already a lot of critical voices on the Internet accusing OpenAi of greed and exaggerated opinions about its product.
It may be expensive, but there is no way out
While many people are outraged (rightly so) at this price, it is important to remember that Altman may simply have had no choice. It has long been known that one of the largest investors in OpenAI, i.e. Microsoft, in this matter, makes very specific profits.
Even recently, information has emerged about serious negotiations between both companies. Their goal was to establish a new division of profits and apparently the new monthly price is the result of these talks.
From the perspective of an average user, is $200 for access to AI a fair price? Not necessarily, but that doesn’t mean there will be no shortage of people willing to do so. Since this is advertised as a more “Premium” option, these are the types of customers it should attract.
Will this approach pay off? We will probably find out about this in some time.
